Travel City Sketch

Vancouver cityWhile visiting the city of Vancouver Canada, I found time to capture the view out my hotel window. There was an interesting mix of older structures in the foreground and newer high rises in the background. I was up early enjoying my coffee as I got started with the sketch.

Before leaving, I was able to finish the pencil outline of all the building shapes in my sketchbook. While riding in the car during a 5 hours drive to our next city, I added the details and textures of the buildings and finished the image in marker.

I really, really enjoy this! Very inspiring–makes me want to go draw!

  4. I love this! Such a nice idea to practice drawing, and have fun!

  5. I loved your perspective from Vancouver! Transports us there. Your style is so fun and quirky…love the texture details in your drawing. Bricks, wood, roof shingles.

    • Thank you for your note, this is the first urban sketch that I have done. It looks a bit discombobulated and yet I am glad I finished it. Prof. Stephanie

  6. I’ve always wanted to go to Canada…. You’re style reminds me of the illustrations of “Where the Sidewalk Ends”.

The Concrete block and large windows of the new structure compared to the shingles and brick of the older ones makes such a nice contrast.

    • Good to get your observations, I thought the two building styles made an interesting city image. Prof. Stephanie
